Did you know?
Contrary to popular opinion, Britain’s schools are officially open to the word of God!
Recent education reforms place a strong emphasis on spiritual, moral, social and cultural education in our schools. Collective worship and religious education are expected to reflect the Christian traditions of the country.
In these areas of the curriculum, Christian churches and organisations are an invaluable, and sometimes unknown and untapped resource.
Our mission
Christian Resources into Schools has been formed to:
· help schools and teachers access the most appropriate and effective Christian resources to support their teaching across all curriculum areas
· facilitate the development and provision of new resources
· raise awareness of the needs of schools amongst Christians
· encourage churches to foster good partnerships with their local school
Services to schools
Building on the strong foundations of an earlier project that produced a printed directory, Christian Resources into Schools (CRiS) has embraced the information age and developed a new online service that makes teachers aware of the wide range of resources and services for schools available from Christian organisations and individuals (www.smsc.org.uk).
This service - free to teachers - is tailored to the needs of schools, reflecting in particular the requirements of the National Curriculum.
The CRiS service to teachers
is delivered through a combination of media: the Internet, termly newsletters
and a telephone help-line. At the core of the service is an actively managed
database of organisations and resources. This is all under the umbrella title
of SMSC online (Spiritual, Moral,
Social and Cultural values)
Services to churches and Christian organisations
Christian Resources into Schools also supports organisations providing Christian resources for schools, resources churches interested in supporting their local schools and parents keen to understand and support the work of their children.
An important aspect of this work is the launch of the School Coordinator Network. Our idea is that every church should be invited to appoint a School Coordinator, who would act as a link with local schools. CRiS will train and resource these people.
Examples of successful church – school partnerships include voluntary classroom and general assistance, support with assemblies, acting as school governors, educational visits to churches, provision of resources and facilities and talks to children by church members.
